Heated blankets

Heated blanket size guide: which size should you buy?

A heated blanket size guide is really a question about coverage, not bedding labels. Mattress names differ across the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and France, so the only number that transfers is centimetres. Below is every Coza size in cm, what each one actually covers, and the three mistakes that make people return the wrong one.

Quick answer

Pick a heated blanket by matching its width to what you are covering, not by bed name. A 100 × 150 cm throw covers one seated adult on a sofa; 130 × 160 cm covers one person lying flat on a single bed; 150 × 200 cm is the smallest size two adults can share without pulling; 180 × 200 cm covers a king bed corner to corner.

The Coza range is sold in exactly those four sizes: Personal Throw 100 × 150 cm (€35.99), Twin 130 × 160 cm (€47.99), Full/Queen 150 × 200 cm (€59.99) and King 180 × 200 cm (€79.99).

If you are between two sizes, size up. A blanket that is 20 cm too wide still works; one that is 20 cm too narrow leaves a cold shoulder or a cold foot every single night.

How to choose the right heated blanket size in three steps

You do not need to measure your mattress. You need to decide what the blanket is for, because a heated blanket is used on top of you, not tucked under a mattress like a fitted underblanket.

  • One person, mostly on the sofa or in a reading chair — Personal Throw, 100 × 150 cm. Full coverage seated, small enough to carry room to room.
  • One person, lying flat in bed — Twin, 130 × 160 cm. 160 cm of length keeps your feet covered when the blanket is pulled up to your chin.
  • Two people sharing one blanket — Full/Queen, 150 × 200 cm. Below 150 cm of width, two adults end up pulling against each other.
  • A king bed you want fully covered — King, 180 × 200 cm. This is the only size that reaches both edges of a 180 cm mattress with overhang left to tuck.

Rule of thumb: add at least 20 cm to the width you think you need if two people will use it.

Heated throw or heated blanket — what is the difference?

A heated throw is simply a smaller heated blanket, usually under about 130 cm wide, designed for one seated person. A heated blanket in the bedding sense is 150 cm or wider and is meant to lie across a bed.

The heating technology inside is identical in the Coza range: the same carbon heating grid, the same nine heat levels and the same one to twelve hour auto shut-off run in all four sizes. Only the fabric area changes, so a larger size is not warmer — it is just larger.

Three sizing mistakes that cause returns

Almost every heated blanket return comes down to one of these three.

  • Buying by bed name instead of centimetres. "Queen" measures differently in Spain, Germany and Ireland. 150 × 200 cm does not.
  • Forgetting length. A 130 cm wide blanket that is only 150 cm long leaves the feet of anyone over about 175 cm uncovered.
  • Buying one blanket for two people. Two adults sharing anything under 150 cm wide is the single most common complaint in this category.

Frequently asked questions

What size heated blanket do I need for a double bed?

For a standard 140–160 cm double mattress, choose the Full/Queen at 150 × 200 cm. It covers the sleeping surface with enough overhang on both sides that neither person pulls the blanket off the other.

Is a 100 × 150 cm heated throw big enough for one person in bed?

For sitting up in bed, yes. For lying flat it is short — 150 cm of length leaves the feet of most adults uncovered. Choose the Twin at 130 × 160 cm if you want to sleep under it.

Do larger heated blankets get hotter?

No. All four Coza sizes use the same carbon heating element, the same nine heat levels and the same one to twelve hour auto shut-off. A King heats the same as a Personal Throw, it simply covers more area.

Can I use a heated blanket on top of a duvet?

Yes. These are overblankets, designed to be used on top of you or over existing bedding, not underneath a fitted sheet. Laying one over a duvet traps the heat and works well on very cold nights.
